After selecting the appropriate half face mask and wearing it correctly, there is another crucial but easily overlooked step - daily maintenance and upkeep. Filter elements are consumables, and their protective ability gradually decreases with usage time and pollution level. Only by establishing standardized maintenance procedures can we ensure that protective equipment is always in good working condition.

After each assignment, the face mask must be cleaned promptly. First, wipe the mask shell with a soft cloth to remove visible paint mist and dust on the surface; Then disassemble the filter cartridge and pre filter cotton, rinse the inside of the mask body with clean water to remove residual pollutants; Finally, dry with a clean cloth and place in a dry and ventilated place to air dry. It is particularly important to note that do not dry or expose the silicone material to high temperatures to prevent hardening and deformation. It is also strictly prohibited to use organic solvents to clean the mask, otherwise it may cause aging of the mask.

The replacement of filter elements is the most critical part of maintenance and upkeep. When the following situations occur, it must be replaced immediately: severe dust accumulation on the surface of the filter cotton and significant increase in respiratory resistance; Smelling or tasting the odor of pollutants, experiencing a stimulating sensation, or reaching the specified usage duration during the use of the filter cartridge. Some professionals suggest that even if not in use, the filter cartridge will gradually absorb trace pollutants in the environment after being opened. Therefore, the cumulative use time should not exceed 8 hours before replacement. It is not enough to judge whether replacement is needed solely based on odor, as the sense of smell gradually adapts and some organic solvents exhibit "olfactory fatigue".

Vulnerable components also require regular inspection. If the breathing valve plate is deformed, cracked, has weakened elasticity or poor sealing, it should be replaced immediately. If the headband loses elasticity or breaks, it also needs to be replaced in a timely manner. If the sealing edge hardens or is damaged, the entire mask body needs to be replaced. The integrity of these components is directly related to the airtightness performance of the half mask, and no carelessness is allowed.

In terms of storage, the cleaned and dried half face mask should be stored separately in a dedicated storage box or sealed bag to avoid contact with sharp objects and chemicals. The storage environment should be dry, ventilated, cool, and away from high temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight to prevent the aging of silicone material and the growth of mold. Unused spare filter cartridges and filter cotton must be sealed and stored to avoid failure due to prolonged exposure to air and adsorption of harmful gases in the environment.

Finally, it should be noted that it is strictly prohibited for multiple people to share the same half of the face mask. If sharing is necessary, it must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each use to prevent cross contamination. After the face mask falls off or is impacted, it needs to be thoroughly inspected again to confirm that there is no damage or deformation before it can continue to be used.
