Fangdun dust and gas half mask usage instructions: core points and safety rules

May,11,2026 << Return list

Fangdun dust and gas half mask is an important equipment for protecting the respiratory system, but many people have misconceptions about it - thinking that as long as there is a mask, everything will be foolproof. In fact, incorrect choices and usage not only fail to provide protection, but may also lead to a false sense of security. The following are the core instructions that have been sorted out for you.

1Choose the right type and recognize the risks

Half face masks are divided into two categories: dustproof and anti-virus, with completely different functions.

Dust mask: used to filter particulate matter such as dust, smoke, mist, microorganisms, etc. There are grades of filter cotton, and different grades correspond to different filtration efficiencies.

Gas mask: used to filter toxic gases and vapors, relying on activated carbon or special adsorbent materials. The filter box is designed for specific types of toxins (such as organic vapors, acidic gases, ammonia, etc.), and there is no "universal type".

Key: The corresponding mask and filter material must be selected according to the type of pollutants in the work environment. Dust masks cannot prevent poisoning, and vice versa.

2Tightness is the lifeline of wearing

The protective effect of a half face mask is highly dependent on the tight fit of the face. Any leakage will allow unfiltered air to enter the respiratory tract directly.

Before each wearing, it is necessary to conduct a tightness check: seal the air inlet with your palm, gently inhale, and the mask should collapse noticeably without any air leakage; Seal the exhalation valve and exhale slowly, with no airflow leaking from the edge.

Beards, sideburns, scars, or facial contours that do not fit well may result in failed sealing. In such cases, a full face mask or positive pressure respirator should be used instead.

Do not pull or adjust the face mask casually after wearing it, and avoid violent movements such as turning or lifting the head that may damage the seal during work.

3Must be checked before use

Please confirm before each use:

The mask body has no cracks, deformation or aging

The headband has good elasticity and no breakage or looseness

The exhalation valve plate is intact, without deformation or dust accumulation

The filter cotton or filter cartridge has not exceeded its expiration date and the packaging is intact

There is no obvious dust accumulation or damage on the surface of the filter cotton

4Signs of Failure and Replacement Principles

Dust proof filter cotton: When there is a significant increase in respiratory resistance or obvious discoloration or dust accumulation on the surface of the filter cotton, it should be replaced immediately. Do not wash with water or tap and reuse.

Filter box: If you smell or feel the smell or odor of toxic gases, or have reached the expiration date indicated in the manual (even if no odor appears), it must be replaced. Once the filter box is opened, even if not in use, it will gradually absorb substances from the air and become ineffective.

Special reminder: Gas masks are not suitable for concentrations that immediately endanger life or health (IDLH environment), nor are they suitable for oxygen deficient environments with oxygen concentrations below 19.5%. In these cases, a self-contained breathing apparatus or a long tube gas supply system must be used.

Correct selection, strict inspection, standardized wearing, and timely replacement - none of these four steps can be achieved, and a half face mask is just a decoration. Please post this notice prominently on the work site and regularly organize practical exercises. Safety starts from every detail.
