FangdunKN100 dust mask: a reliable choice for protecting gemstone processing crystal dust

Sep,17,2026 << Return list

The gemstone processing industry is dazzling, but in processes such as cutting, polishing, casting, and melting, a large amount of fine crystal dust is generated. These dust particles contain free silica, which is easily inhaled into the lungs when suspended in the air for a long time, causing damage to the respiratory system and potentially leading to occupational diseases such as pulmonary fibrosis and asthma. Therefore, it is crucial to do a good job in protecting against crystal dust.

The hazards of crystal dust

The free silica in crystal dust is the main source of harm. Dust with a particle size less than 10 microns can be inhaled into the lungs, and long-term exposure may lead to pulmonary fibrosis, symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest tightness, and difficulty breathing. In addition, it may also have an impact on the kidneys and immune system, and dust floating can affect the work line of sight, increasing equipment operation risks.

Combining engineering protection with mask protection

On the basis of engineering protection such as ventilation and wet operations, masks are the last personal protective barrier that can effectively block dust from entering the respiratory tract. Especially when there are blind spots in mobile operations or equipment protection, the protective effect of masks is indispensable. If the mask is chosen improperly or worn improperly, dust may enter through the gaps, and the protective effect will be greatly reduced. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the scientific selection and standardized wearing of masks.

Selection of Mask Protection Level

Choose masks with corresponding protection levels based on the dust concentration in the work environment:

·Conventional gemstone cutting and polishing process (moderate dust concentration): Use KN95 dust masks with a filtration efficiency of not less than 95%;

·High dust operations (such as large-scale cutting and dry polishing): Use KN100 dust masks with a filtration efficiency of not less than 99.97% to ensure the barrier effect against fine dust.

Mask replacement cycle

Under normal working conditions, it is recommended to replace KN95 and KN100 dust masks every 4-6 hours. If the following situations occur, immediate replacement is required:

·The dust concentration in the work environment is relatively high;

·A large amount of dust or obvious dirt adheres to the surface of the mask;

·The mask becomes damp due to breathing moisture or wet work;

·The respiratory resistance significantly increases, the mask is damaged, or the sealing performance decreases.

Protection awareness and management

Operators need to enhance their awareness of protection and strictly follow mask protection regulations; Enterprises should strengthen training and management to ensure that protective measures are implemented effectively. Integrating scientific protection into daily operations is essential to effectively resist crystal dust and ensure the safety of gemstone processing work.
