Anti silicon dust in stone processing: choosing the right Fang Dun mask can save life

Feb,28,2026 << Return list

The daily work of stone processing cannot be separated from processes such as cutting, polishing, chiseling, etc. During these operations, a large amount of fine dust containing free silicon dioxide, commonly known as silicon dust, is generated. This type of dust has extremely small particle sizes and can directly penetrate the respiratory barrier and enter the lungs. If inhaled for a long time without effective protection, it can induce irreversible silicosis, accompanied by symptoms such as coughing, difficulty breathing, and even loss of labor ability in severe cases. What is even more alarming is that silica dust has been clearly listed as a human carcinogen, posing a fatal threat to the respiratory health of stone workers.

As the last line of respiratory protection for stone workers, masks are also the most critical line of defense. Choosing and using masks correctly is the core prerequisite for safeguarding one's own health. Unlike ordinary protective scenarios, stone workers need to choose masks that match the characteristics of high dust concentration and long operation time, avoid misunderstandings, and accurately select them in order to truly block dust outside the body. They can be classified according to protection levels and selected according to needs to avoid waste.

Fang Dun KN95 level (preferred for regular operations): With a filtration efficiency of ≥ 95%, it can effectively block the vast majority of stone dust and is the preferred level for regular operations of stone workers. Suitable for low to medium concentration dust scenarios such as continuous polishing, ordinary cutting, and stone polishing, which are the mainstream forms of stone processing operations. KN95 level masks can achieve a balance between protective effect and wearing comfort, effectively blocking the invasion of silicon dust without affecting long-term work due to excessive respiratory resistance. The cost-effectiveness is moderate and suitable for most stone workers' daily use.

Fangdun KN100 level (advanced protection): filtration efficiency ≥ 99.97%, belonging to high-level dust protection, suitable for special scenarios with extremely high dust concentration, such as confined space stone processing, high-intensity sandblasting operations, batch dry cutting, irregular stone processing, etc. The dust concentration in such scenarios far exceeds national standards, and the risk of inhaling silica dust is extremely high. KN100 level masks can achieve almost zero dust penetration, minimizing health risks to the greatest extent possible. Some KN100 level masks are equipped with a breathing valve design, which can quickly eliminate the humid and hot gases inside the mask, reduce stuffiness, and is suitable for high-intensity operations for 8 hours; If the work environment is accompanied by odors, you can choose to use KP100 grade activated carbon layer (which balances dust prevention and odor adsorption), which can prevent dust, absorb chemical odors and irritating odors generated by cutting, and avoid respiratory irritation.

Although stone processing work is arduous and tiring, health is always the top priority. Faced with the ubiquitous threat of silicon dust, choosing protective masks with appropriate levels such as KN90, KN95, KN100, etc., wearing them in a standardized manner, and replacing them in a timely manner, is the most practical and reliable protection for oneself. By guarding the line of defense of breathing, we can work with peace of mind and return home safely, so that every hard work can be exchanged for long-term health and a stable life.
