The grinding, crushing, screening and other processes in the quartz sand workshop generate high concentrations of dust, with free silica content often exceeding 90%. Inhalable particles are prone to invade the alveoli, and long-term exposure can easily lead to silicosis. Professional dust masks are the "invisible guardians" that protect respiratory health. When choosing, it is important to focus on core points such as protection level, type compatibility, and sealing, and reject ineffective protection.

1、 Clear standards: identify the bottom line of compliance and reject "three no" products
Domestic industrial dust masks must comply with GB2626-2019 "Respiratory Protection Self priming Filter Anti Particle Respirators", and the packaging and body must be clearly labeled with this standard number. Quartz sand dust is a non oily particulate matter, and only KN series masks need to be selected. KP series is suitable for oily dust and does not need to be considered. At the same time, it is necessary to have LA certification (Special Labor Protection Equipment Safety Mark), which can be verified for authenticity on the official website. Products without certification are strictly prohibited from being used for occupational protection.
The protection level should be matched according to the dust concentration: KN90 (filtration efficiency ≥ 90%) is only suitable for low concentration short-term auxiliary operations; KN95 (≥ 95%) is the preferred choice for general use, suitable for conventional medium to high concentration positions; KN100 (≥ 99.97%) is the highest protection and must be selected for high-risk scenarios such as enclosed workshops and grinding sections.

2、 Choose the right type: Suitable for job requirements, balancing practicality and economy
1. Disposable (disposable): lightweight and hygienic, ready to use, suitable for short-term operations and job rotation. KN95 level is suitable for routine positions, KN100 level is suitable for short-term high-risk operations, but the disadvantage is high long-term use costs.
2. Removable half face mask (recommended for long-term positions): The silicone/rubber face mask can be repeatedly cleaned, paired with replaceable filter cotton, with high sealing and low replacement cost. Paired with KN100 filter cotton is the best choice for high-risk sections.
3. Full face mask: Covering the face and eyes, it provides a more comprehensive seal and is suitable for extreme scenarios such as enclosed spaces and high dust splashes.

3、 Key details: Balancing protective effect and wearing comfort
Tightness is the lifeline of protection: it is preferred to choose head mounted (ear mounted is prone to looseness and air leakage), equipped with plastic metal nose clips, and the sealing edge should be soft and fit the face. After wearing, if there is no air leakage when exhaling lightly and if the inhalation mask is sunken, it is considered to be well sealed.
The workshop is mostly for physical labor, and it is necessary to choose a style with a cold flow exhalation valve, which can quickly discharge humid and hot air, reduce stuffiness, and avoid taking off masks due to discomfort. Priority should be given to using electrostatic stationary meltblown fabric as the filter material, balancing high filtration efficiency and low respiratory resistance. The headband should be wide, flat, and elastic, while the inner layer of the mask should be skin friendly and odorless. Independent packaging should be preferred to avoid secondary pollution.

4、 Guidelines for Avoiding Pits and Key Points for Use
Misunderstandings need to be avoided: ignoring standards and only focusing on promotion, mixing medical and industrial masks (medical only for droplet prevention), disposable masks that can be washed with water (damaging filtration efficiency), neglecting sealing, and downgrading protection in high-risk work areas.
Attention to use: The disposable KN95 should be replaced every 1-2 days, and the KN100 filter cotton should be replaced every 10-30 days. If it is dirty or has increased resistance, it should be replaced immediately; Wear dust-proof clothing and goggles to form a complete protective system.
Quartz sand dust is silent but deadly. When choosing dust masks, one should not be tempted by cheap prices or gimmicks, but should focus on the four core elements of national standards, grades, sealing, and comfort. Only then can the "invisible guardian" truly play a role in protecting the respiratory health of workshop workers.
