How to choose a dust mask? First, Fangdun users should take a look at these five tips

Jul,03,2026 << Return list

Choosing the wrong dust mask can be a waste of money or even harmful to the body. The following points can help you avoid common misconceptions.

The first pitfall: identify the standard number instead of the word "dustproof".

Many masks are labeled as "dust-proof" without a standard number, which is considered ineffective protection. Industrial dust prevention must comply with the mandatory national standard GB2626-2019. Masks that comply with this standard, whether or not they come with a breathing valve, ensure filtration efficiency. KN100, KN95, etc. are all grades under this standard. Please refer to the standard number for the grade.

The second pitfall: Ear worn devices are not suitable for high-intensity work.

Dust masks should be tightly fitted to the face. Ear worn styles have limited tensile strength and are prone to looseness, air leakage, and ear tightening when worn for a long time. Head mounted (two elastic ropes wrapped around the head) can evenly apply pressure to ensure sealing, suitable for long-term or high-intensity operations.

The third pitfall: Neglecting the fit with the face.

No matter how good the mask is, it's useless if it leaks. After wearing, cover the mask with both hands and exhale quickly. If there is airflow rushing out from the nose bridge or cheeks, it is ineffective. Be sure to adjust the nose clip according to your face shape to ensure a tight fit. For those with beards, the stubble can damage the seal and needs to be shaved off before wearing.

The fourth pit: using the wrong level of oil resistant dust.

Dust is classified into oily and non oily types. Welding fumes, coal dust, and other non oily materials are selected from the KN series; Oil fumes, asphalt fumes, and other oily substances are selected from the KP series. Using the wrong KN to prevent oil dust, the filter cotton quickly becomes clogged and ineffective.

The fifth pit: If the filter cotton is not dirty, do not replace it.

After saturation, the resistance of the filter cotton increases, and it needs to be replaced when breathing is difficult. Do not wash with water. Washing destroys the electrostatic adsorption layer, and the protective force returns to zero after washing.

Ultimate advice: Read GB2626-2019 standard carefully, choose a head mounted style, confirm fit, select KP/KN according to dust properties, and change filter cotton frequently. Protection is no small matter, don't let 'fake protection' steal your health.
