Welding is a common process in industries such as mechanical manufacturing, construction, and shipbuilding. The composition of welding fumes and harmful gases is complex, often containing particles such as iron oxide and manganese oxide, as well as ozone, nitrogen oxides, fluorides, carbon monoxide, etc. Most pollutants have small particle sizes, with some below 1 micron. Long term inhalation may increase occupational health risks such as welder's pneumoconiosis, metal heat, and manganese poisoning. Therefore, while improving ventilation, it is important to wear respiratory protective equipment reasonably.
For welding environments, a half face mask is a commonly used personal protective equipment. The Fangdun half face mask is composed of a rubber or silicone mask body, replaceable filter elements, and exhalation valves. Compared with disposable masks, half masks can cope with particle and gas pollution during welding by replacing the filter combination.
Welding fumes belong to solid particulate matter and may be accompanied by harmful gases such as ozone and nitrogen oxides. Dust prevention alone is not enough. It is recommended to use a combination of dust and toxic protection: install a filter box at the air inlet of the half face mask, and add particulate matter filter cotton on the outside of the filter box. This combination can filter out particulate matter and adsorb some harmful gases. According to national protection standards, for fine particles such as welding fumes, the filtration efficiency should not be less than 95%, which meets the requirements of KN95 or higher grade filter media.
The design of Fangdun half face mask balances filtration and operational comfort. The mask body can be made of food grade soft silicone material, which is soft, less irritating to the skin, and less likely to cause allergies when sweating. The exhalation valve can be opened during exhalation to help expel humid and hot gases, reduce the stuffiness inside the mask, and is suitable for welding operations with longer duration and higher intensity. The mask structure is relatively compact, and it generally does not hinder the use of welding masks when worn, which helps to maintain visibility and operational safety.
When choosing a half face mask, attention should be paid to sealing, filter element matching, and timely replacement. Before use, check the fit between the face mask and the face, select the filter box and particle filter cotton according to the working environment, and maintain and replace them according to the instructions. Through reasonable selection and standardized wearing, the half face mask can provide targeted respiratory protection for welding operations.
