Choosing the right protective mask can prevent occupational diseases

Jan,21,2026 << Return list

In work environments filled with volatile aerosols and chemical particles, spray painting workers are facing a silent health challenge. Every time they engage in spray painting work, organic solvents and metal dust are scattered into the air, posing a threat to those in this occupation. Once these substances are inhaled into the respiratory tract and enter the lungs, they can cause irritation to the mucous membranes and dizziness in the short term. Over the long term, they can lead to many occupational diseases related to the lungs. Therefore, choosing a suitable gas mask is the first step for spray painting workers to safeguard their health.

Firstly, you can choose a disposable half-face mask, which is similar to the commonly seen N95 mask. This type of half-face mask is lightweight and easy to maintain, mainly preventing solid and volatile particulate matter. The replaceable half-face mask can work through a combination of an independent filter box and filter cotton, which can not only protect against dust particles but also select suitable filter boxes for toxic gases in the air. The air-supplied mask provides air to the mask through a long tube connected to it.

So how should workers engaged in spray painting choose a suitable protective mask from so many options? Precise selection requires an evaluation process. First, it is necessary to identify the harmful substances present in the work environment, such as dust, formaldehyde, benzene derivatives, or organic vapors, and choose a mask based on the concentration of these substances.

For paint mist and dust, a half-face mask effective in filtering particulate matter should be chosen. According to Chinese standards such as GB 2626-2019, the level of particulate matter protection is divided into two major series: KN (anti-non-oily) and KP (anti-oily and non-oily). Among them, the KN95/P95 level means that the filtration efficiency for particles of 0.3 microns is not less than 95%.

For organic gases released by solvents and thinners, it is necessary to install a gas filter cartridge. The appropriate gas filter cartridge should be selected based on the toxic gases present in the working environment. Ordinary filter cotton for protecting against particulate matter cannot be used directly. If there is both dust and toxic gas, a dual-protection configuration against dust and toxic gases can be chosen.

Maintenance and usage tips:

1. Please check the integrity of the mask before each use to ensure that it is not damaged or deformed, and that the valve functions properly.

2. Please follow the correct steps to wear it, ensuring that the mask fits tightly to your face. Facial hair such as beards and sideburns may seriously affect the fit.

3. Please record the activation time of the filter cartridge and filter cotton. Once you smell an odor, feel a significant increase in respiratory resistance, or reach the maximum usage limit, replace them immediately. Do not use them beyond the expiration date.

4. After use, please clean the reusable parts according to the specifications and store the mask in a clean, dry, and pollution-free environment.
